Twilight

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer Bella was so annoying I can't express it. Any other character in the entire town of Forks would have been a better narrator. Parts of this book were just comical even with the irritating main character. There were a couple of places where I just laughed out loud where the author clearly didn't intend for me to laugh...like the sparkly skin scene. I would also like to point out that the 'romance' is a painful case of insta-love. At least Edward had an excuse to be infatuated with Bella, he wanted to eat her more than he wanted to eat anyone else, but was doing his best to resist his desire to kill. Bella has no excuse and I can't help but feel that she was in lust with him. Edward was somewhat interesting, especially before he decided to give into his infatuation with Bella. All of Edwards family members were somewhat interesting--particularly Alice, but I thought that they gave away the reveal of who she was and how she lost her memory was given away way too easily.

This could have been an interesting book if there was no insta-love, the vampires didn't sparkle, and the main character hadn't been so darn annoying. As it is I was stuck trying to decide between giving it one star and two stars, and uncertain about whether I'm going to bother possibly (probably) wasting my time with the rest of the series.
